Additionally, it contributes significantly to their personal and social development
Outdoor Education Guide
The consortium has developed a handbook/guide on outdoor education for teachers, divided into clear sections on the following subjects:
- The history and context of outdoor education.
- The academic and psychological benefits of outdoor education.
- Managing outdoor classes.
- Choosing destinations, and ways to exploit areas.
It also have a safety charter for outdoor education. This include the possible risks that may occur during outside learning such as: risks of hay fever and allergies; exposure to anti-social behaviour, and how best to avoid them; how to lead groups in urban areas – road crossing, numbers of staff, meeting instruction, registers.
This section of the manual is based on a focus group with experienced teachers of outdoor education and also the collation of best practices from desk research.
